URBAN ART IN LA BOCA

Walk through the least known corners of La Boca, a working-class neighborhood steeped in art and history, and home to some of the most huge and spectacular murals in the city as well as a recent urban art district and place of festivals and artistic projects. Appreciate the great variety of murals and other expressions that reveal the local characteristics of graffiti  in Buenos Aires, combined with the history, tales and images that reflect the social background of this area.

The highlights of the tour are Usina del Arte cultural center, the spectacular murals in the least touristy areas, but also famous Bombonera, the iconic street Caminito. By the end of the walk, enjoy a “choripán” (typical sausage sandwich) in one of the colorful restaurants of La Boca.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF EVITA

The historical importance and the legacy of Eva Duarte, “Evita”, are unquestionable. But nothing is above debate for Argentineans. Her leadership continues to generate controversy till today. So let’s explore together the lights and the shadows of her life through those emblematical places and buildings that represent her; Plaza de Mayo, epicenter of popular revolts and also the stage for some of Evita’s more memorable speeches, the giant “Mural de Evita” and the Ministry of Public Work, Evita’s tomb in the famous Recoleta cemetery and Evita s Monument in the front of the National Library (built over the residence of Evita and Juan Perón after this was demolished by the opposition). Finally, visit Eva Perón Museum, a former halfway house to underprivileged single mothers during the Peronist administrations.

ARGENTINEAN AND LATIN AMERICAN ART IN BUENOS AIRES

Enjoy the visit to two different museums whose collections may complement each other, in order to get in touch with diverse cultural trends and historical periods. We suggest the following three options to combine according to your preference: MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires), Fine Arts National Museum, and Museum of Colonial Hispanic Art “Issac Fernández Blanco”.

Optional: Visit to a private workshop of a well known Argentinian artist.  Plan in advance a visit to a private workshop of a well-known artist after the visit to museums. This will give you the “unique opportunity” of meeting a contemporary Argentinian artist and possibly, if you wish, acquire an art piece in the very moment, out of galleries and art dealers.

“We met Maria Casiraghi in 2005 . She was our guide in Buenos Aires. We are used to travel the world and we are used to be guided but we never met a guide like her – very well informed about places you have to see and stories you have to know but also about hidden places and hidden histories not meant to be known by tourists –she is certainly a plus- value to any written guidebook – she is a book on our own – never published but so required… She is someone you do not meet every day – someone you want to hide and keep for yourself …. But anyway we recommanded her to our friends and they also shared our enthousiasm and privilege and they were very grateful to us. Maria Casiraghi became our friend for every season. Life gives only a few times such presents. Handle it with care.”

“Dear María, It’s the third year in succession that we had you as a guide in Buenos Aires and we have been just been as elated with your guiding as on our first visit to your wonderful city. Your knowledge of the city is extra-ordinary, not just the mere knowledge of the city and its important landmarks and scenic corners, but also the historic and cultural background. You have the talent to first create the general impression of the city, then deepen any of the corners thereby showing great flexibility in catering to the visitors specific wishes, be it walking a specific area, or indicating the best addresses for things ranging from antiques over books to restaurants, tango-shows or whatever is of peculiar interest to the guest!. Ms. Casiraghi is always the first person we contact, and our trip is never complete if we fail to see her during our stay. She is beautiful and charming, warm and friendly, and always eager to share her knowledge and insight of the city and it’s culture. We hope to employ her services again for an indepth tour of Patagonia. Maria has elevated the task of being a “tour guide” into an art form..”

"Maria was the best guide I have ever had. I have led Photo Tours to Costar Rrica, Belize twice and in 2019 to Africa. Maria has a great personality and was by far the most conscientious, professional, and fun guide so far. We made it clear from the first day that our tour was a photographic tour and if we wanted to stop for pictures, we would stop. This happened several times and Maria was on her phone rearranging our schedule to keep our tour flowing according to the rest of the day. I highly recommend her.

We could not have asked for a better guide than Maria Casiraghi for our amazing tour of Patagonia! Not only did Maria make sure that our experiences were top-notch, but she also handled a few unexpected situations with grace and expertise.
